Growing Readers

Ann Marie Johnson, Julie Hughie and Lisa Reeves are fortunate to be certification specialists for the Growing Readers Project. A strong partnership exists between the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA), the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE), the Get Georgia Reading Campaign, and the sixteen Regional Educational Service Agencies (RESAs) in our state. The Growing Readers project aims to provide consistent high-quality professional learning and coaching to teachers on effective reading instruction to help more children read on grade level by the end of third grade.  Growing Readers certification specialists also provide job-embedded training for district and school candidates (coaches) who are working on becoming Growing Reader specialists at the end of the two-year cycle. The following schools are participating in the grant:

Bruce Elementary (Bibb County)

Hartley Elementary  (Bibb County)

Carrollton City Elementary (Carrollton City)

Park Elementary (Harris County)

George E. Washington Elementary (Meriwether County)

Mountain View Elementary (Meriwether County)

Unity Elementary (Meriwether County)

Berta Weathersbee Elementary (Troup County)

We are currently in our third cohort.  Cohort one and two deserve a shout out for participating in Growing Readers in the past:  Heard Elementary, Ruth Hill Elementary, Carrollton City Elementary, Western Elementary, Troup Elementary and West Point Elementary.
